The original brief described the requirement for retail outlets of CD’s and DVD’s to be able to add a security RFID (Radio frequency identification) label to their stock and at the same time securely lock the cases.
The need for a label long enough to wrap around a DVD/CD case and incorporate an RFID panel was ‘born’. |

|
Sovereign designed a system to combine two separate reels of labels …
The first was a decorative label long enough the wrap and secure a DVD/CD case
The second was a RFID security label reel. |
| |
| Basically our machine temporarily removed the decorative label from its backing web, placed an RFID label onto the now empty web, then replaced the original decorative label over the top of the RFID label. Now when a label is pulled from the backing web it has an RFID label attached ready to secure and protect the product. |
| |
| The machine was programmable as to the occurrence of RFID labels … one every third label for example as the RFID was a relatively expensive deterrent. |
| |
| With a processing throughput speed of 50M/min the PPM was about 150 labels per minute. |
